Sharon Osbourne: Abortion “Was the Worst Thing I Ever Did”

Sharon Osbourne: Abortion “Was the Worst Thing I Ever Did” January 18, 2015

Sadly, there are so many stories of celebrities admitting they’ve had an abortion, and talking about how much heartache it caused. These stories are sad, but important to let people know how devastating abortion really is! I’m going to do a series of blog posts about some of those stories, hoping we can all learn from their mistakes and pray that God would heal their heartache… and that people will quit seeing abortion as the way to handle an unwanted pregnancy.

Sharon Osbourne has done quite a lot in her life – from managing her husband Ozzy’s music career to hosting a TV show, to starring in a reality show to being a judge on the X Factor. But there’s one thing she immediately says is “the worst thing” she’s ever done – and that is having an abortion.

Hearing the story in her own words is so much more powerful than anything I could say:

I had an abortion at 17 and it was the worst thing I ever did. It was the first time I’d had sex, and that was rotten. I’d always thought it was going to be all violins, and it was just awful.

I was two months gone when I realized. I went to my mum and she said, without pausing for breath: “You have to get rid of it.”

She told me where the clinic was, then virtually pushed me off. She was so angry. She said I’d got myself in this mess, now she had to get me out.

But she didn’t come. I went alone. I was terrified. It was full of other young girls, and we were all terrified and looking at each other and nobody was saying a bloody word. I howled my way through it, and it was horrible.

I would never recommend it to anyone because it comes back to haunt you. When I tried to have children, I lost three – I think it was because something had happened to my cervix during the abortion. After three miscarriages, they had to put a stitch in it.

In life, whatever it is, you pay somewhere down the line. You have to be accountable.

If only more women and girls would listen to Sharon’s story and consider the consequences of their actions. Life is always the best choice! In case you missed them, here are some other celebrities who’ve admitted that abortion causes heartbreak:

  1. Lisa Robertson, wife of Duck Dynasty’s Al Robertson
  2. Nicki Minaj
  3. Stevie Nicks
  4. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and his ex-girlfriend
  5. Michael Jackson
