Winter ice

Winter ice March 12, 2009

I just recently painted this, I like it pretty well. I’ve been experimenting with painting with my left hand. Though I write with my right hand and think of myself as right handed I am finding that I express myself much more easily and elegantly when I paint with my left hand. Actually I started out painting with my right hand and then got frustrated and stopped. It was later that I switched hands and then I started to like what I was doing. I was inspired by a house that was covered with icicles facing into the rising sun one morning. I was caught by the greys and yellows in the in the icicles next to the intense blue of the sky and the darkness of a tree branch. I started with a more realistic interpretation and swiftly realized that I’m not very good at painting houses and went with a more abstract interpretation. I’ve never been a huge fan of abstract art, but recently my painting has had a distinct abstract feel. It seems like there are many things these days that I used to dislike and now are becoming an important part of my life. Abstract painting, Julie Andrews, reconstructionist paganism and Spanish come to mind.
