Art Journal

Art Journal May 11, 2009

I recently started keeping an art journal in an altered book format. I used an old and rather beat up copy of Hans Christian Anderson’s Fairy Tales. The only reason I could stand to damage the book was that it was already kind of beat up, otherwise I would have happily given it a prize place on my bookshelf.

So I’ve made myself a challenge, I am going to share one page of my art journal each week. I admit I have a number of pages already done, so if I miss a week here or there, I’ll still be able to post, but I’m still excited about the prospect of giving myself a deadline. I’ve been enjoying doing art with a deadline, a lot more than I used to. In the past it felt like it took something away from my creativity to know that there was a purpose other than to express myself, or a timeline for the project to be done. Now it feels more like a challenge, and it gives me a little thrill whenever I see something I’ve done be used, even if it’s just for my friends and family. So without further ado, here is the first page of my journal:

I thought I would start with the cover and the first page.
The resolution isn’t good enough to really see the words, so I though I’d type out what it says:

You fly my heart
A child’s heart flowers
