Ailee’s Dress

I was really excited to make this dress for Ailee. She picked the fabric, and I jazzed it up with the ruffle and the embroidery. I used vintage buttons that I love, and I think she looks adorable in it. I decided to make her some school clothes when we were shopping and I just couldn’t find clothes that fit her that weren’t way too grown up for my little five year old. I wanted something that made her feel pretty and dressed up without hampering her movement and fun.

Reading my own words makes me think of the book Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott. In the book the heiress Rose is encouraged by her Uncle Alex to discard confining corsets and wear loose fitting clothes. I totally agree, a century later.
