Sketches

Sketches January 18, 2010

these are a couple of sketches I scanned and played with in photoshop. I love the gradient map function It’s like coloring without the work. I noticed a ghost shape in the first sketch. Between the hands is the march hare from another sketch that was picked up in the very light spectrum of the gradient map. I thought it was kind of odd and funny so I left it rather than blur it out. He looks kind of creepy, maybe he’s the ghost of Easter past? The second is a sketch of a statue of Persephone from Greece. Right now the goddess Persephone is deep underground with her husband Hades in her role as Queen of the Underworld. I have to say, I’m ready for her to come back to the earth and bring the Spring with her!

We’ve all been shut in most of the week, starting with the girls we’ve all been taking turns getting a nasty cold. I’m dying to get back to my block printing and my painting, but it’s hard to do when all I want to do is sleep! I did get a couple of great books out of the library about those topics, so I’ve contented myself with reading them. One is about brushwork and the other is about woodcut printing. I’ll post a review later, but I need to go make myself some ginger tea and play with the girls.
