Busy!

Busy! February 15, 2010

I’ve been crafting like crazy this past week! I am just about done with the first block, you can see the test print above. I only had a red ink pad, so that’s what color she was. I need to make her front leg holding the thread a little more noticeable. You can see where there was something on the block on the wing making a little blotch that obscures some of the wing. I was going to try and have my project finished before I told what I was doing, but I got so busy with postcards that I didn’t have time to sew.

So the answer to, “What is Melissa up to anyway?” is that I’m making aprons!
The exciting thing is that I discovered that the soy based intaglio ink that I bought works really well with fabric, so the pocket is going to have my new grasshopper on it! I’m really excited about combining two of my favorite mediums, block printing and sewing! The ink is really permanent too. I cleaned my blocks with rags the last time I printed, and then proceeded to wash, bleach, and oxyclean the heck out of them with no fading! I love happy accidents!
I love how things always come back to Creative Every Day for me! Home is where my heart truly is, and her Home theme resonates with that realization. I’ve been realizing that I need to bring my art closer to my heart, tying my creativity to my values and core being. It would be so easy to try and guess what would be popular as I fill my Etsy shop, but that’s not what I need. I need to craft from my heart and let that lead me.
These are what distracted me from aprony goodness, but they were worth it.

I’m participating in iHanna’s postcard swap.
It’s been great getting to use my stash
my little paper bits
paintings my daughter did when she was 3.
eraser stamps
magazine cuttings from college
good stuff.
