Still Busy!

Still Busy! March 1, 2010

So I just made my to do list, and it’s length is a little intimidating! Still I’m back on track. I’m really excited because I entered my very first art exibition. Entries for the Greater Lansing Recycled Art Exhibition were due last friday, so most of my free time last week was spent getting that together. I’ve never written an Artists Resume before, and mine was pretty thin. Still, just entering was a great learning experience, so I’m happy. I’ll find out if I get into the exhibition later this month. I entered my raven, along with 2 block prints that I printed with soy ink on pages from my Grandfather’s Machinist’s Handbook.

Edit: I got in. Squeee! All three pieces! I am super geeked!
I like the way I caught the morning light with this photo.
Every morning I watch the sun rise through it as I get the kids ready for the day.

The Creative Every Day Challenge Theme for the month is Stories. So much of what I do is about stories. A lot of my work is inspired by myths, like my Raven, or fairy tales and children’s stories. When one of my friends saw my Grasshopper print, she said it reminded her of a Cricket in Times Square. Sometimes I think I’m still just a 32 year old kid. I loved this photo I took above, it seems like a window into another world, like Alice down the rabbit hole. It’s actually from my husband pelting our window with snow and making a hole in it to make faces and make my daughter laugh. The light was great though, so mom wandered over with her camera and took a couple of shots. 🙂
I loved so many children’s stories as a kid. Anything written by Beatrix Potter was a favorite, The Secret Garden, Little Women, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Alice in Wonderland and of course, I read the original Grimm fairy tales and Anderson’s as well. I’m starting to see a pattern here. My obsession with the odd and the old is starting to make sense now. If anyone cares to answer, I’d love to know: what books inspire your creativity?
