Thrifty Art Thursday!

Thrifty Art Thursday! October 28, 2010

Today, I’m talking about one of my favorite things, carving! I love carving stamps and linoleum blocks. The process is so hands on and it’s incredibly ancient. The first stamps were made of clay in ancient Mesopotamia more than 5,000 years ago!

There’s something so thrilling for me when I see an image I created reproduced multiple times. Making stamps I feel like I get rid of the middle man. There’s no scanners, printers, or copiers involved. Don’t get me wrong, I love my scanner, and I don’t know what I’d do without my printer, but knowing that I can create an image, and reproduce it by hand, using low energy, environmentally friendly techniques gives me a real thrill!
Hope you enjoyed it! If you carve any stamps, let me know I’d love to see them!
