Spirit Song

I made this using a paper I created with kids tempera paint on construction paper. Remember when the art teacher showed how to make ink blot pictures by folding a paper in half? Well I just pressed one paper on top of the other.

Then using my micron and white gel pen I just started making it a picture. It was like spotting pictures in clouds. Creating this piece was really very soothing, and I liked how it turned out. I want to do more with using randomness and chaos as the basis for a more ordered image. Over on Found Stitched and Dyed Erin Endicott wrote about dripping walnut ink onto her family heirloom clothes and then embroidering images of the hurt she had onto the ink blots. It’s well worth a look, her work is powerful and beautiful, and also allows chaos to guide her work.
