Thrifty Art Thursday: Rock Skulls

Thrifty Art Thursday: Rock Skulls October 27, 2011

Just in time for the holiday I’ve got a little project to share with you. I’ve blogged about drawing on rocks before here, but this time I’ve got a nice little twist to it. I was inspired by sugar skulls that are made for Dia de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday filled with altars made for the beloved dead, decorated with bright colors and skeletons. I love the idea, but I was feeling a little more earth toned. Something more in tune with my surroundings was what I was going for.

So I got out some rocks.

And I got out some conte crayons and a charcoal pencil.
And I got to drawing.

Here’s a video of what I did. It’s so much easier to talk about it than to type it all down. You will have to forgive the view of the top of my head, I’ve still got a rather large amount of learning to do about camera angles….

Hope you enjoy creating some of your own rock art. Thanks for reading!
