A Short Political Rant

A Short Political Rant February 5, 2016

I am hearing a lot of talk about the presidential candidates, and it doesn’t revolve around their policies or beliefs. Rubio has big ears. Millennials love Bernie for his unkempt hair and dress. I heard Cruz is “just weird looking.” Plenty of uncalled for comments have been spewed about Fiorina’s face.

So are we a country made up of mature enough citizens suited to make an informed, well-thought out decision about our next Prez? Or are we third graders who are so caught up in appearances that we would never vote for anyone who doesn’t satisfy our desire for eye candy, a good laugh, or whatever we’re looking to make fun of because we want to feel better about ourselves?

I sincerely hope we will 1.) go to the polls and 2.) go to the polls knowing what each candidate believes, what we believe, and with a sense of duty about doing our part to ensure America heads once more in the right direction of being a God-fearing nation in a current state of repentance.

It’s not about looks. Rubio does have big ears. Fiorinia’s face is different. Bernie cracks me up with his mad scientist hair. So what. I have 80’s hair, a big nose, and am socially awkward. It’s about CHARACTER. What will the candidates likely do if another 9/11 happens? Do they confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord? Are they humble? Do they demean women (or men) and refuse to protect defenseless babies? There are more issues, and this is not rocket science. Let’s keep the main thing the main thing: what has the candidate done in the past, and what worldview are they confessing with their mouth? There isn’t any way to perfectly judge a candidate. But they are putting themselves out there to be scrutinized in policy, past moral and ethical decisions, and current character. Let’s look at THOSE things. Not outer vessels that will eventually wither like grass, and fall like a flower.
