Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7   It is a happy way of soothing sorrow when we can feel, “He cares for me.” Christian, do not dishonor religion by always wearing a brow of care; come, cast your burden upon your Lord. You are staggering beneath a weight that your Father would not feel. What seems to you a crushing burden would be to Him but as the small dust of the balance. Nothing... Read more

I have a love / hate relationship with the beginning of a new year. My heart beats a little bit faster as I anticipate the freshness of a new year. The possibilities seem endless, and a long list of “This year I will _____” have flooded my journal the past few days as I’ve reflected on the things I’d like to accomplish in 2016. While I do love dreaming about what the future could hold, I also make it a practice... Read more

During this Christmas season, I’ve been going through John Piper’s advent devotional entitled “Good News of Great Joy”. Each day begins with a scripture reading, followed by a short devotion walking through the Advent season. (You can download the free ebook here.) The world “Advent” means “coming”, and Piper does a wonderful job of encouraging the soul not only to look forward to Christmas, but also to the ultimate hope found in Christ. In the beginning of the ebook, Piper has a preface entitled,... Read more

News alerts blew up my phone this past Friday evening, informing me of the the terrorists attacks taking place in Paris, France. Coordinated attacks in Paris left over 100 people dead, hundreds injured, and millions across the world heartbroken. As I’ve scrolled through Facebook and Twitter, I’ve read post after post that read something along theses lines… “I’m so shocked!” “I don’t understand how humans could do this to one another!” “Who knew humans could be this evil?” While the attacks are absolutely... Read more

Growing up, my family never celebrated Halloween. While I doubt many Christians would say that they “celebrated” Halloween, my family was definitely in the minority. I’ve never been Trick or Treating, and our family didn’t participate in any of the regular Halloween activities. Instead of venturing out in costumes, my family would always snuggle in to watch a move, and the next day my mom would go buy discounted candy. I’ve wrestled through how Christians should handle the topic of Halloween. I’ve thought... Read more
