The Catholicism Project

The Catholicism Project September 2, 2011
For many years Father Robert Barron, a priest from the Archdiocese of Chicago, has been working on an impressive and challenging project, The Catholicism Project.  It is a ten-part documentary on the history of the Catholic Church that will soon be available and aired on public television.  All sneak previews of the documentary prove that it shows the history of the Church in all its glory.
Oftentimes the history of the Church is told by people outside the Church who already have an anti-Church bias.  Fr. Barron’s project is an accurate and fresh look at the story of the Church told by the Church herself.  We don’t need others to tell our story, we can tell it well.
Some see it as a flaw to have a Catholic priest tell the history of the Church.  They say it will be biased.  Yet, when we want information about hearts, we go to a cardiologist.  When we want information about ancient Hindu rites, we go to a Hindu spiritual leader.  When we want information about France, we consult French historical records.  This series is the telling of the history of the Church by the Church herself, what better place to get the history from?
