My Photo Collection

My Photo Collection September 17, 2011

While in seminary in Rome I would send pictures back home to share with my family the experiences I was having abroad.  As time went on I opened a picture account with Yahoo where I could organize the pictures and send them more easily.  Eventually I opened a Flickr account where I continue to organize and share my pictures.  It has turned into a well-organized and beautiful record of the places I have visited.

An unexpected effect of having a Flickr account is the various requests I get throughout the year of people wishing to use my pictures.  I’ve had requests to use some of my pictures in books, travel guides, slide shows, websites and the most recent one, for a Catholic organization’s calendar. I always agree to the requests.

The one picture I am the proudest of and consider one of my best is below.  I took this picture in March 2006 during the opening Mass of the first Consistory called by Pope Benedict XVI.  I sang in the choir, therefore the fantastic view.

A Consistory is a gathering of all the cardinals of the Church primarily for the event of the naming of new cardinals.  These are held whenever the Pope chooses to call one, they are not scheduled according to a particular cycle.  I’ve named this picture Magisterium since it captures the Magisterium of the Church: the Pope, Cardinals and the bishops (behind the cardinals) in communion with the Pope.
