Kids say the funniest things

Kids say the funniest things October 28, 2011

Earlier this week, the third grade teacher invited me to speak about the new bishop and about the Church in general.  They must have been talking about the new bishop in class since when I asked who knew the name of the new bishop, one boy raised his hand right away and answered “Gregory John.”

The kids had lots of good questions.  When it was time for all of us to leave for Mass at 8:45, the kids lined up while I stood at the door.  A little girl standing by me said, “Father, it takes a long time to become a priest because it’s a big commitment since you can’t get married.”  “Yes, that’s right,” I answered.

A little boy standing by the girl looked shocked.  He looked up to me and said, “so you aren’t married?”

“No,” I answered.

“So you don’t have any kids?”

“No.”

He looked at me with a face of unbelief and said slowly, “but you gotta have a crush on somebody.”

I had a good laugh and then it was time to head over to the church for Mass.
