Mass in Spanish beings at Saint Teresa, Grovetown

Mass in Spanish beings at Saint Teresa, Grovetown November 3, 2012

Over two hundred gathered tonight at Saint Teresa of Avila in Grovetown for the first regularly scheduled Mass in Spanish at the parish.

Though several of those present were current parishioners at Saint Joseph in Augusta, well over half of those in attendance were Saint Teresa parishioners or Catholics who had not been attending Mass.  There was a joyful atmosphere and people were grateful for the opportunity to pray in their native language.

Father John Johnson and Deacon Kerry Diver were also present for the Mass.

I was very happy to celebrate the Mass.  During the offertory I recalled arriving to Augusta twenty-one years ago and living just one block from the old Saint Teresa on Pleasant Home Dr.  Father DiFrancesco lived across the street from us and we would walk to Saint Teresa for Mass.  It is a blessing to serve now at the same parish that welcomed my family when we arrived to the United States.

Mass will be celebrated every Saturday evening at 7:30pm (except November 17th when we will have a bilingual Mass at 5:30pm followed by a parish Thanksgiving dinner).

The music was great!
