Angelicum Graduates: Must read (and sing)

Angelicum Graduates: Must read (and sing) January 21, 2014

I found the words to this hymn dedicated to the University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome, the Angelicum.  I don’t remember where I got it from, but I found it today while looking through a pile of papers from seminary.  The song goes to the tune of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Battle Hymn of the Angelicum

Mine eyes have seen the Summa and the power of its word.
It has crushed out every error; it has brought souls to the Lord.
In the hands of a Dominican, it’s a “Terrible Swift Sword.”
Its Truth goes marching on…

Refrain

Glory, Glory Halleluia!
Thomas wrote for us a Summa
so let th’Angelic Doctor school ya.
The Truth goes marching on.

There are those who claim ol’Thomas (slowly) isn’t relevant today.
They’ll say there is no black and white,… just complex shades of gray.
Their exams last ’til the end of June;… we’ll be gone by the end of May!
For the Truth quickly catches on! (refrain)

With some of my classmates on the last day of school.  I’m in the middle.
