Now in Savannah

Now in Savannah June 27, 2014
Soon it will be two weeks since I moved from Saint Joseph in Augusta to Savannah to begin my new assignment.  I want to share a few pictures of my new home, the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.
The day I arrived the Wall Street Journal published an article where Trip Advisor identified the best attractions in the world based on the quantity and quality of reviews of landmarks and parks worldwide.  The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist ranked #9 in the list for the United States after Gettysburg, the Golden Gate and the Vietnam Memorial.  I’m also proud to say that Machu Picchu in Peru ranked #1 in the international list.  Saint Peter Basilica in Rome ranked #5.
The cornerstone for the present church was laid in 1873 and the cathedral was dedicated on April 30th, 1876.  In 1896 the spires and rectory were completed.  A fire nearly destroyed the whole cathedral in 1898.  Reconstruction began immediately and the rebuilt cathedral was dedicated on October 28th, 1900.
I look forward to living in Savannah and serving the Diocese in my new assignment.  Thank you for all your prayers and support!
