Birthplace of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary

Birthplace of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary November 17, 2014
Tradition tells that Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was born in present day Bratislava, Slovakia in the 13th century and lived in its castle until the age of four.  Above is a beautiful state of Saint Elizabeth on the grounds of Bratislava Castle where Elizabeth is giving a beggar a loaf of bread.
Elizabeth was the daughter of King Andrew II of Hungary, and after a brief marriage, lived her life as a widow taking care of the poor and sick of the kingdom.  Inspired by the Franciscan friar Conrad of Marburg, she used her inherited wealth for works of charity.  She lived an austere and penitential life until her death in 1231.
