Sketches of the Tide at Mont Saint Michel

Sketches of the Tide at Mont Saint Michel September 30, 2015
One evening while on retreat at Mont Saint Michel in France, I stood at an overlook to watch the tide come in.  The wind was strong and the water came in quickly.  There weren’t many people around allowing me to enjoy the moment almost by myself.  I wished I could capture the moment with a picture or video, but neither did it justice, so I opened my journal and decided to sketch what I saw.
View at 9:20pm.  You can see how the water is still far away mostly around the small island in the middle and along the coast in the background.
View at 9:50pm.  By this time the tide had risen considerably, flooding a good bit of the area.
View at 10:05pm.  Not much dry land remained.

View at 10:15pm.  Just a few minutes later more of the land would be covered with water.  By the time I went back to the Abbey, the tide had reached its peak.
