Christ, Rice & Moore!

Christ, Rice & Moore! December 6, 2005

My reserve on Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt came through surprisingly fast and I have just finished the book. It’s really not bad, not bad at all.

She has researched with care – I did think “bound books” (codexes) came in a bit later, but maybe not. Her afterword describes her studies, and how she has indignantly discounted all the modernist bibcrit (my preferred ugly word for an ugly thing). I enjoyed that part!

The picture of Christ and the Holy Family is not exactly the one I’ve had, but it’s certainly an acceptable one. Most questionable perhaps is her use of the apocryphal childhood miracles, though you can see how she has made them acceptable (not vindictive acts, but almost “accidental” ones), and certainly the death and resurrection of one of Jesus’ playmates is enough to start the story off with a bang. 🙂 Still, it contrasts with the gospel statement that His first miracle (and that one before time) is the one at Cana of Galilee.

Also I was puzzled by the use of “Mary” for the wife of Zebedee. Yes, there were several Maries running around in the extended family, but I thought Zebedee’s wife was Salome, the “mother of James and John”?? Or do I remember wrong?

I’m glad Rice has converted back to Christianity. Now if she’d just convert away from the Michael Moore/Bill Clinton brand of Democracy which fills her site …

FWIW, in (or, an) answer to the query.
