Pagans Lead The Way on Civil Rights
Recent events at Pagan Spirit Gathering have created a sense that the Pagan community is moving forward in the arena of inclusiveness at large public rituals. These discussions have set the scene for a new thread to be woven into the tapestry of Pagan diversity.
Each of the individuals involved in these discussions conducted themselves with wisdom, grace and a focus on a positive result. This approach has been well documented in multiple posts from community members.
What has not been discussed enough is how these events have set the stage for a new “Pagan Value of Inclusiveness”. Individual leaders from both the Dianic and Transgender community came to some agreements. Wisely both stated that they speak only for themselves. Imagine, however, a community where their agreements become a model for the planning of Pagan events throughout the country. Pagan events would:
Schedule all main rituals as inclusive of all who self identify as a participant.
Exclusive rituals would be scheduled in smaller spaces while other events are also taking place.
Reflect an honoring of all paths within our community.
Members of both the Transgendered and Dianic communities would defend each other’s right to worship as they please.
While some are waiting to see what PSG as an organization decides, we as a community have the opportunity now to adopt inclusiveness as a basic principle within ourselves. We are not a community that needs a large organization to decide for us. We each have a personal relationship with divinity that informs our actions and beliefs.
Today she speaks to me, the time has come, Pagans can lead the way in this significant achievement in civil rights.
