A Constitutional Position in Support of Limited Gun Control January 13, 2013

OK, I have had enough of the silly argument that assault weapons and large ammunition clips are necessary to insure that some future tyrannical government will not subvert the freedoms of the people.
The preamble of the constitution clearly states its intent.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Where is the tranquility, justice, common defense, general welfare and liberty of our citizens served by allowing these weapons on our streets? Surly the 20 children, six adults and two firefighters recently gunned down enjoyed no such “rights.”
This is not a post about taking everyone’s guns away. At one time we had an assault weapon ban, and yet, the second Amendment stands. The people have the right to have guns, (all types of guns is another matter).  This is about having a reasonable and responsible discussion about violence.
Those who put false concern about the Second Amendment above the right of our children to not be murdered are acting against the interests of our country, our children and our security.
 It is time we tear the flags they keep waving from their hands and state clearly how their actions dishonor every American who is concerned enough to consider what needs to be accomplished to make American families safe.
They are not patriots, their actions reveal them as fear mongers acting in self-interest.
