By Maria Faiola “Can You Hear Us Now?” features six different Muslim women explaining their perspective on what Islam says about women in society. They are all advocates and leaders in their communities and share ways that they try to break stereotypes that many Americans have about Muslim women. The idea for the video began in response to the controversial statements made my Donald Trump where he insinuated that Muslim women were not allowed to speak out in public. His... Read more

I am amazed at the bias that English commentators, Nasir Hussain and George Dobell, are showing towards Moeen Ali after the recent 4-0 thrashing of England by India. Ali was the second-best batsman and second best bowler on the English side. For neutral observers that should say something. He made the second highest runs and took the second highest wickets for England.  He made more runs and took more wickets than Broad and Stokes and yet both Hussain and Dobell... Read more

President-elect Donald Trump ran a campaign that can only be described as racist, xenophobic, sexist and Islamophobic. Now that he has won elections, it appears that Donald Trump’s crusade against Muslims may become a reality. A day after the election his call for a ban on Muslims was removed from his website and many commentators understood that as a signal that he was not going to pursue that policy. Anti-Muslim rhetoric was just a dog whistle used to garner support... Read more

And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to the straight path (10:25). This post is a form of Thanksgiving. I have experienced many beautiful and blessed moments in my life. One of these recurring blessings is the opportunity to visit St. Andrews School in Middletown and speak in their religious service. I spoke tonight and it was my fifth discourse in as many years.  I thank Allah All Mighty for giving me these opportunities.... Read more

We live in an age when violence is rampant. If we did away with all the various classifications of violence that reduce its perceived volume; terrorism, mass killings, homicides, manslaughter, war, insurgencies, rebellions, preemptive wars and so on and so forth, and clubbed them all under one rubric – people killing people – then even the news headlines would be deadly. People would just die of fright at the violence our species unleashes on its kind. According to the Quran... Read more

By Pola Mora It was Saturday, August 20th. When I woke up, I knew that the routine I had adjusted to over the past five weeks would quickly fade. I would no longer hear the sounds of men’s voices reaching the highest pitch they could at 4:30 AM. I would no longer make a morning stop for the chicken wings that I had grown accustomed to eating for breakfast. I would no longer need to bend my body for those... Read more

He wanted to be a doctor, a pediatric cardiologist to be precise. I believe he will end up becoming a healer. Someone who could heal the gaping wounds – income gap, culture wars, bad governance, intolerance and violence — that are tearing our country apart This is Bryan Townsend I am talking about, the leading Democratic candidate for Congress from Delaware. Today I had an opportunity to diagnose him; his ideas, his political philosophy and what essentially motivates him to... Read more

The violence in Orlando today is horrific and tragic. My prayers go out to the victims and their families. Violence is wrong, period. Oh God, please protect us from those who hate and those who teach and preach to hate! From the video: Though the position of Islam, according to a majority of scholars and scripture, is that of what other Abrahamic faiths say on homosexuality – that homosexual acts are a sin, I’m a strong believer in that political equality cannot... Read more

Believe it or Not: The Purpose of Islam is Peace | Quran 2:208  يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ادْخُلُوا فِي السِّلْمِ كَافَّةً O You who believe, enter peace completely This reflection on Quran 2:208 is about how being a believer implies a commitment to peace in a very comprehensive sense.     QURAN: TAKING A SINGLE LIFE IS LIKE KILLING ALL OF HUMANITY Reflecting on the Quran: An Ayah at a Time | 5:32 This is the profoundest statement on the sanctity... Read more

April 19th will be go down in history as a truly important moment for the Muslims of Delaware. On this day, County Executive Tom Gordon, read a proclamation recognizing the two Eids, Al-Fitr and Al-Adha, that Muslims celebrate. The proclamation is truly a landmark moment for Muslims in Delaware. It not only recognizes Islamic holidays but also recognizes the contributions that Muslims have made to human civilization in the past and continue to make to New Castle County’s culture,... Read more
