Reminders of turmoil still mark the streets of Ferguson. Memorials left at the site where an unarmed African American teenager was shot last summer by a white police officer. Buildings burned or vandalized during the sometimes violent protests that followed both the shooting and a Grand Jury’s decision not to indict the officer involved. Barricades surrounding the Ferguson police department. But as this traumatized city prepares for the national Martin Luther King holiday, there are also signs of hope. Several months after Michael Brown’s shooting, Ferguson remains a city searching for healing. Through a variety of initiatives, some church leaders are trying to become bridge builders.
