Why “To Give a Defense”?
My title comes from 1 Peter 3:15: “Always be ready to give a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence.” I could use some work on the “gentleness and reverence.” I often lapse into brickbats and deadly chastisement. Someone has to do it.

So this blog is about…
Mainly apologetics, but I have been known to digress. You might wake up tomorrow to an article about Fibonacci numbers, or Hester Prynne, or the Queen’s gambit, or the Apassionata. Digression is the soul of wit. (I think it was Ray Bradbury who said that.)

And who on earth is Scott Eric Alt?
Former teacher of writing and literature; freelance writer; convert from Protestantism; abject papologist; sacristan; Benedictine oblate; 3rd degree Knight of Columbus; curmudgeon; staunch defender of semicolons, long books, sentences, the filioque, literary hybrids, the Inquisition, popery, cats, plate tectonics, fugue states, lists, esoterica, the Oxford comma, and slovenly prose; barely functional without divine assistance unmerited and lots of coffee.

Where else can I find your obnoxious writing? I also write for the National Catholic Register, Catholic Stand (where I am a managing editor), and Epic Pew.

Hey, you don’t allow comments! Don’t I have free speech here?
No. You shall have to get over this loss; I have. Though it may be hard to believe, I have better things to do with my time than police comments; clean up verbal dung; and argue with trolls and mad, loopy people—which studies show account for 98.7063% of all comments on all blogs. Writing good content is hard enough without that. If you really think you have something thoughtful to say, that the anxious world waits upon, start your own blog.

I want to (1) praise your genius, (2) inform you of your manifest errors, (3) decry your existence, (4) ask you a sheaf of questions I could easily find the answers to on Google, (5) offer you a publishing contract with riches beyond measure. How may I contact you?
My e-mail is scott.eric.alt@gmail.com. All correspondence is bloggable unless privacy is requested.
