Penny for the Turkey? November 19, 2017

Hi everyone,

This is just your periodic reminder that Steel Magnificat is about 90% donor-supported, which is a fancy way of saying that Mary and Michael’s income, apart from begging for help from already-strapped relatives, is almost entirely tips from gruntled* readers. And I do make it my goal to keep you guys gruntled. I am the primary writer, and I do my best to keep things in here evenly balanced between art, religious meditations and social justice preaching with the occasional grumpy complaint for piquancy.** Michael copyedits my writing and sometimes writes as well; he’s also the househusband*** who does all the laundry and chores since I’m so often laid up with my various autoimmune conditions. Rose’s contribution is to provide me with material.

This month we were cruising along just fine until I remembered that Thursday is Thanksgiving and I haven’t bough Thanksgiving dinner; we actually have to eat for the rest of the month as well; and a floor-to-ceiling bookcase that should have lasted a solid three years just collapsed on the paltry excuse that it was six years old and stuffed with twice as many books as it was built for, so we don’t need not one new one but two. And approximately five minutes after Thanksgiving it will be Christmas with all the extra expenses that ends up costing.

So, as usual, I ask: if you like what you read, give me a tip when you’re able. If you don’t like what you read but want to be nice anyway, give me a tip. Little five and ten-dollar tips every now and then are awesome. Sometimes people give me huge tips as well. If you can’t afford to tip, keep reading and keep us in your prayers. We are very grateful.

How do you give tips? Read carefully, it’s changed since the new website layout. There is no longer a button on the side of the page for PC users, and the button is not a tacky shade of yellow anymore either. Go to the top of my page, under the now-much-smaller Steel Magnificat banner. Click on the “donate” tab. Click on the white rectangle that says “PayPal: the safer, easier way to pay online!” You’ll be taken to a page that says “Donate to the Little Portion,” which is the name I call my house and so I named my PayPal account that too. PayPal will walk you through everything else.

That’s all for now. Back to your regularly scheduled blogging!

*Yes, gruntled is a word. It’s the opposite of disgruntled.

**Piquancy is also a word. I double checked because I wasn’t sure.

***Househusband is more of a slang term.
